soon
it’s midnight…
silence
sound of nought
but crawl of claws
on gravel
footsteps
muted far away
laboured breath
from rotting jaws
heartbeats racing
twisted bedsheets
wet with sweat
when…
suddenly
a clock
strikes twelve
and moonbeamed
from my throat
erupt
howls for blood

So much sound in this that plays together to create a dark, chilling fantasy. Nice.
ReplyDelete"sound of nought
ReplyDeletebut crawl of claws" ... This is my favorite part.
I also like how the spacing suggests that the "clock" might represent someone who is striking 12 people.
I also like these:
"twisted bedsheets
wet with sweat"
"moonbeamed
from my throat" ... Also how the word-stacking makes it sound like you're vomiting blood.
brilliant.....you got your teeth into this prompt ;)
ReplyDeleteGive me a big smile, this one did.
ReplyDeleteSo much for the thought that, "tender is the night." Your poem dispels that nicely.
ReplyDeleteDramatic play of bloody howls Bjorn ~ Crawl of claws is creepy ~
ReplyDeleteI don't know why, but the werewolf sounds like he's coming in for the night.
ReplyDeleteI felt a couple of different things going on here, but mostly a mysterious transformation. There is the implication that there is more than one at play here ;)
ReplyDeleteheartbeats racing

Brilliant werewolf Quadrille, Bjorn. I love the lines:
ReplyDelete'sound of nought
but crawl of claws'
'and moonbeamed
from my throat
erupt
howls for blood'.
Nice twist - reminds me of Thriller!
Oh my gosh! Okay --- you've definitely gone to the dark side with this one! It strikes me after reading comments on my Final Scene...that when I wrote Vamp sounds of decay....folks may have seen the double entendre within the word "vamp" and thought I meant a vampire....which your words definitely invoke! When actually I meant as in a movie direction: vamp up the sounds...make them louder :) Ah well....you've definitely given us a thriller here with a vampire twisted in the sheets!!!
ReplyDeleteWhew. Man, I can HEAR this:
ReplyDelete"crawl of claws
on gravel"
My affinity for paranormal novels takes over here and I imagine all kinds of bloodthirsty events.
ReplyDeleteLove the sound of the words. As others have said "crawl of claws on gravel" scores.
...crawl of claws on gravel... wonderful sound words here.
ReplyDeleteMy goodness this is such a captivating write, Bjorn!❤️
