I like reading this with "even" in its less obvious form (meaning, balanced, or equal on both sides). This makes me think of a couple --- tired of fighting and sitting in silence because at least that way, neither is "winning" or "losing." They're even.
I wonder if the shadow over them is a good force (like God's presence) or something more malevolent in nature.
I am glad to see you visiting us again Bjorn. What a nice haiku in response on "hearing/sound" a bit mysterious ... I had to translate it first to Dutch to understand it. Chapeau ... a beauty!
